"I used to purchase all of my beef from the local grocery store. Then one day, I received a flyer in the mail from Holy cow. I took a chance and placed my order. I am so glad I did! The ground beef is very lean and the steaks are tender and juicy. I will never purchase beef from the supermarket again. Thank you Holy Cow for bringing your farm to me."

We are a young family of 4 so we do not need much meat, but know we truly appreciate your farm. I have shared our experience, communication, and positive feedback on the meats with several neighbors."

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your farm/ranch practices?

We believe that happy, healthy animals make the best meats. Therefore, we raise our animals on pasture in the fresh air and sunshine. Our animals are antibiotic-free, hormone-free, and gmo-free. We rotationally graze the animals so that the grass and land can regenerate, making an amazingly lush pasture, which makes a healthier, nutritious meat.

How much meat do I need to last my family a month?

That is a great question! Here's how to look at this...How many meals do you make at home per week? What size meat helpings do you typically plan on per person? Here on the farm we plan on at least a half pound each, but for you that may depend on the age of your kids. So multiply the number of meals home by the amount per meal by 30 and you have your monthly meat consumption, or at least a good estimation of it.

Do you ship for free?

Yes, we do ship for free. We use eco-friendly thermal lined boxes with freezer packs. We ship earlier in the week via UPS typically.

How much freezer space do I need?

As a rule of thumb about 30 to 35 pounds of meat will fit in in 1 cubic feet of freezer space.

Was my meat harvested yesterday?

Nope. In fact, here is the beauty of frozen meat. In that the meat is vacuum sealed and flash frozen when it is processed, the quality of the meat stays good for a very long time. We have been at this for a while and have confidence of selling meat up to a year of processing dates. Beyond a year, we typically will eat them ourselves or create a special sale, but that doesn't happen frequently. As long as your meat is frozen and handled at safe meat temperatures, you are good to roll. Farm meats are quality meats, unlike grocery store meats which are thawed and refroze many times before they reach the consumer. Farmers have been filling their freezers for many years and living off of the abundance. A full freezer feels great!

How long is frozen meat good for?

We get this question all of the time. It's a great question. According to the USDA, frozen meat is good indefinitely. However, the quality of the meat changes as it is exposed to oxygen. We vacuum seal all of our meats, therefore the meat is not exposed to the oxygen unless the seal is broken or the package is torn. Our vacuum-sealed meats are literally good for years. In fact, we have eaten several packages that were over 4 years old and were just as fresh as when they were packaged originally since the oxygen stayed out of the meat. So, rest assured, your meat will stay good as long as it stays frozen. And rest assured, it will last a long time.

How do I thaw my meat?

Thawing the meat that is vacuum-sealed is easy. You can put it in the refrigerator a day or two ahead, depending on the size of the cut. Or you can be like us and put it in cool water, which works great as long as the seal is good. The meat depending on the cut size thaws out within hours or less. Do not microwave the meat to thaw it. And, sometimes, you do not even have to thaw the meat before the cooking process. I (the farmer's wife) almost always cook my roasts from frozen. I put frozen roasts in the crockpot or instant pot with any goodies I want to cook them with and let them go. They turn out perfect. I also cook my ground beef from frozen many times in the skillet. And, also, I usually cook my patties of beef or pork from frozen on the grill. Frozen meats give you options.

Where does your grassfed beef come from?

The grassfed beef meat that we sell comes directly from our small family farm.

How are your animals treated and raised?

We believe that happy and healthy animals make the best quality of meat. We treat our animals humanely, feed them with the best quality of pasture, and allow them the space just to live well.

What does the term 'grassfed' mean in terms of your beef production process?

The label "Grassfed" can mean many things at the grocery store. But on our farm, Grassfed means animals that are actually raise on green pastures. And, when it is winter and the grass is not growing, we feed them the hay that we prepare in the warm seasons. Our 100% Grassfed Meat is just that, grassfed and grass-finished. Our non-gmo grain-finished beef is raised like a grassfed beef, but finished on the pasture with their choice of non-gmo corn in the last 3-6 months typically. They just fill up faster and are lazier.

How can I ensure that the beef stays fresh until I'm ready to cook it?

Keep your meat in the freezer until a day or two before you are cooking it, then place it in the refrigerator. Your meat has been flash frozen as soon as it was cut and packaged, so it is as fresh as when it was cut. It has been vacuum sealed to keep the air out, preserving the quality of the meat. As a precautionary tip, make sure to have a temperature alarm on your freezer so that if there is a power outage, faulty freezer, or someone leaves the door open that you can remedy the situation quickly.

What's the best way to store and/or freeze your beef products?

Store your meats in a freezer colder than 30 degrees Faren height. Most of our freezers are set around -10 to +10 degrees Faren height.

To ensure that your freezer is staying cold, we recommend getting an alarm for your freezer. You can get something simple with a temp probe and a magnet on the outside that will beep if the temperature rises inside the freezer. Or, you can get one that connects to your phone to alert you. You can find both on Amazon.

What is your return policy if I'm not satisfied with my purchase?

Contact us right away so that we can take care of you. We want you to be 100% satisfied with your order from small family farm. We can replace the meats, give you a refund, or give you credit on a different order, whatever works best for you.

How is your beef packaged for delivery?

Our meats are frozen. We package our meats in insulated shipping boxes with frozen special gel packs, encased in foil liners. And, the cool thing is, that when the shipping process works as it should, it is on your door step the day after we ship.

How can I track my order?

When we ship your order, you will receive a tracking number so that you can follow where your meat is and when it is coming.

How are you ensuring the safety of your beef given the current health situation?

Our animals are harvested in a state-inspected processing facility. Our animals are processed in our own state-inspected processing facility. We follow a rigid SOPs and HACAP plan. Our processing crew takes meat handling seriously.

How do you raise your pork?

Our pork is raised outside on pasture in the fresh air and sunshine. It has shelter to come and go as it pleases. Happy pigs make healthy pork.

Do you sell chicken, and how are they raised?

Yes, we sell pasture-raised chicken. We used to raise all of our pasture-raised pork, but life got really busy. So, we worked with Rodney at Middlefork Meadows to ensure that, our customers have the option of delicious, healthy chicken. The chicken is raised in green pastures in chicken tractors, moved daily, and with non-gmo feed.

When will my meat be ready?

Great news... your meat is ready to go. We will ship it out on the next shipping day. It is frozen and will be packed up in thermal lined boxed with frozen packs and sent right to your door step.

Do you ship in Indiana?

Yes, we sure do ship anywhere in Indiana for free. At this time, due to red tape issues, we cannot ship outside of Indiana. Lord willing, we are working on getting a butcher shop inspection that will allow us to ship throughout the US. But, in the meantime, you are welcome to have it sent to Indiana or come on over and pick up at our farm store.

What is the ordering process?

Place your meats in the cart and order. We will be in contact with you and let you know how your order is coming along. We will pack it up and ship it and send you the tracking information. Then when it comes, open the boxes, put it in the freezer, plan your meals, and Enjoy!

How do I pick up at the farm?

You can order online, and we will send you the hours and days for store pick up. Easy Peasy!

How long have you been raising beef?

Our family has been raising quality freezer meats since 1998 on our small family farm north of Monon, Indiana.

After several years of selling beef locally to repeat customers, we knew we produced a quality of meat that other families wanted for dinner too—a meat that was grown ethically and free of fake ingredients, chemicals, and growth hormones.

Because of this, we created Holy Cow Farm Fresh to give more families the opportunity to feed their loved ones high-quality, grass-fed, and pasture-raised meats that are produced with ethical practices, are free of harmful fillers, and deliver tremendous flavor.

What are your farming practices?

We believe in using smart and ethical farming practices.

At Holy Cow Farm Fresh, we’re passionate about raising happy animals and being transparent with our livestock practices. Our animals are raised ethically and enjoy freedom, sunshine, and pasture living prior to harvest because we know that farming happy animals leads to the best quality of life for them and the best quality of meat for you.

Additionally, Holy Cow Farm Fresh practices regenerative agriculture. This type of farming allows us to work with nature to restore soil and ecosystem health, protect the environment, and increase farm productivity. We do this by utilizing practices like adaptive grazing, increasing plant diversity in our pastures, and eliminating harmful farming chemicals.

We’re also blessed to be one of the only farms in Indiana with their own on-farm processing facility available to service customers for bulk custom orders.

Who are these people, the farmers?

Paul and Joanne Mosher,

high school sweethearts, were married on July 4, 1998, and are carrying on the farming tradition from their grandfathers before them.

They raise their four kids on the farm where—through the blessings of Jesus—they’re able to produce quality meat for the rest of their community.

Paul, who bought his first farmland while still in high school, has been a farmer since 1994. You’ll find him heading up the farm and as the butcher in the on-farm butcher shop, raising natural green solar panels of hay and pasture (not industrial solar), and tending to all the livestock.

Joanne earned a master’s degree in Agronomy from Purdue University and is a soil scientist. Along with Paul, she is constantly researching new ideas and innovations to improve the farm and soil for the animals, customers, and her family. In addition to being blessed as a farmer's wife, farmhand, and homeschool teacher, Joanne also handles sales for Holy Cow Farm Fresh.

All four of Paul and Joanne’s children have worked with their parents on the farm. Both of their sons, Levi and Caleb, are serving our country in the Army National Guard, and Caleb still works on the farm with the the hay and livestock.

Paul and Joanne’s daughters, Gracey and Elizabeth, can also be found helping around the farm, at the farm store, or cleaning in the butcher shop, while still in school.

Do you have any recipes or meal planning resources available?

Yes, we are working on a collection of our favorite farm recipes and share them by email from time to time. Also, when you buy a bundle, we share with you a list of meal options, so that you can streamline your meal planning.

How does your pricing compare to the grocery store prices for similar products?

That is a great question. Thanks for asking. Honestly, the grocery store meats and the meats directly from our farm are completely different products. We guarantee that our products are from our farm here in Indiana in the good ole' USA, grocery store meats cannot guarantee that. We do not add antibiotics or growth hormones to our beef, the grocery store cannot guarantee that. We dry age our beef, the grocery store wet packs it and adds other liquids and preservative fillers to up the weight. And the list goes on... the products just aren't similar. It may look like the meat at the grocery store is cheaper than authentic farm fresh meats, but on a long-term pound by pound basis, our meat stack up to being well worth the investment in your family's health and your peace of mind.

Are you a real farm?

You bet we are! And we even host farm tours days for you and the family to come check us out.

Is your farm really on the "Sacred Cow" Documentary that is streaming on Amazon?

You bet it is! We were blessed to work with nutritionist, Diana Rodgers, as one of the featured farms in her documentary, "Sacred Cow", that shows how eating well grown meat is good for you and good for the environment.
